Let me appreciate my chief principal Mr. Moses Muiruri for giving me this opportunity to serve in this docket. The department boasts of being the most loved and most esteemed department for the power it has over the students' future careers. Ours being a boys national school, who are naturally inclined towards high- octane adventures and tough choices, the sciences sit well with them. The department have evolved from producing average performance to actually competing at the top. The department produces good performance at the CEKENAS examinations as well as in national examinations. The department comprises of 3 core subjects: biology, chemistry and physics. Each is headed by a head of subject (HOS), who is responsible for the management of the subject. They work under head of department (HOD). KCSE PERFORMANCE FOR 3 YEARS: 2022 2023 2024 PHY: 8.80 7.76 7.89 CHE: 7.80 8.13 8.33 BIO: 7.78 8.55 9.07 The data clearly shows all the three sciences improved in 2024,which happens every year. The department have over 25 teachers who are highly skilled and work together as a unit to produce exemplary results. The department have eight laboratories from where practicals are carried out. We have five well trained laboratory technicians. The department is well equipped with all the facilities required for teaching the 8:44 system. The department is gearing up for the administration of any subject under CBE which may fall under the department. The department participants in both internal and external programs such as symposiums and science contests. The department organizes a national science contest every year which attracts schools from across the country. The contests are always well sponsored by different organizations especially universities. The department works in a well-coordinated manner where every tutor feels at home and is supported to give their best. The support of the administration is cannot be overstated. We are well supported in what we need. All thanks to our chief principal, Mr Muiruri and his team. The department is focused on producing the very best students in science and technology now and in future. Science is the bedrock of technological advancement, helping our beloved country, Kenya, achieve its millennial goal of becoming a middle level developed country by the year 2030.

About Our School

Baricho Boys High School is a public national boarding secondary school for boys in Kirinyaga County, Kenya, providing affordable, high-quality holistic education to over 2,000 students under the national curriculum with a strong emphasis on academic excellence, discipline, and character development. It consistently ranks as a top performer in KCSE exams while nurturing future-ready leaders.

School History

We are national boarding high school for boys located in Kirinyaga County. The institution was established in 1964 by the late Bishop Caesar Gatimu of the Nyeri Catholic Diocese, in collaboration with the Catholic Mission. When it first opened, the Catholic-sponsored school enrolled just 30 students. Since then, it has grown significantly, now accommodating over 1,400 learners. The government officially took over the school in 1973, appointing Joseph Kagenya as the first principal under the Teachers Service Commission. Baricho Boys was later elevated to national school status in recognition of its notable academic and infrastructural growth. Each year, the school admits over 400 students based on academic merit and individual preference, per Kenya’s education placement policy.
